The esteemed Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) is set to mark its 11th year in 2022. This year’s call for entries was met with an overwhelming response: more than 3,200 pieces were submitted by 1,600 artists spanning 47 nations.
The experienced jury, comprising of Matthew Burrows MBE, Dale Lewis, and Nana Shiomi, engaged in careful consideration to curate a shortlist featuring 123 pieces from 113 talented individuals.
In addition, curators Clare Burnett and Jacquiline Creswell have handpicked 29 site-specific installations designed to resonate with the structural, spatial, and ethereal qualities of Wells Cathedral.
Standing proud as a prime example of 14th-century Gothic architecture, the Wells Art Contemporary display harmoniously melds cutting-edge global art with historical grandeur.
This unparalleled contemporary exhibition invites art lovers to immerse themselves in diverse forms of expression, from figuration to portraiture, landscapes to cityscapes, and abstract creations. The journey unfolds through the grandeur of the cathedral, its adjoining courtyards, and the gallery nestled within the cloisters.
Adding to the spectacle, attendees will have the rare opportunity to experience the creations of the distinguished sculptor, Antony Gormley, as part of the exhibit.
