The band ME REX has recently debuted their new single, ‘Colossal Colossal Colossal’, taken from their upcoming first full-length album Giant Elk. Anticipated to be released on October 20 through Big Scary Monsters, the album will feature the already popular song ‘Eutherians (Ultramarine)’. The new track is accompanied by a video crafted by Myles McCabe of the band, which you can view below.
Myles McCabe, speaking on the new music video, shared, “Creating the music video for ‘Colossal Colossal Colossal’ was a challenge considering our tight budget, but I was determined to produce something that was not only mesmerizing but also capable of enhancing the narrative aspect of ME REX. My affinity for fantastical elements directed the aesthetic choices, drawing inspiration from classics like Lord of the Rings, The Dark Crystal, Adventure Time, and Dungeons and Dragons. In addition, I aimed at achieving the mix of eeriness, rich backstory, and enjoyment you find in series such as Steven Universe, The Midnight Gospel, and Over the Garden Wall.”
“I crafted narratives for Phoebe [Cross] and Rich [Mandell] that revolved around simple yet potent imagery to weave tales that resonate with many. In Phoebe’s story, she encounters a menacing serpent, receives a sword, and conquers the beast. In Rich’s tale, he witnesses a meteor plummeting to earth and embarks on an expedition to discover its impact site. Despite being diverted by an aquatic surge, he ultimately arrives at his goal and discovers a meteorite-crafted crown. For my part, simply resting on a mushroom, engrossed in a book, and performing the tune felt sufficiently expressive.”
